Tuesday, February 10, 2004 A decomposing, 56-foot sperm whale exploded in the middle of a crowded street in Tainan, Taiwan. The animal had been discovered washed up on a beach and was being transported to a research center when it blew up, splattering people, cars, and storefronts with blood and blubber. "Because of the natural decomposing process, a lot of gases accumulated," said professor Wang Chien-ping.
